Diego Sanchez reflects on UFC Mexico win this past weekend

By bjpenndotcom - November 10, 2016

This past weekend in Mexico, UFC veteran Diego Sanchez returned to the win column as he picked up a unanimous decision win over Marcin Held. The win was a pretty impressive one for Sanchez, who managed to leave fight fans in awe when he used the Octagon walls to aid him in escaping a standing guillotine attempt.

Sanchez, who has hop-scotched wins and losses going back to 2011, when he defeated Martin Kampmann via unanimous decision to make it two in a row, took to social media to thank his fans for their support, and promise them more success in 2017:

Two clean wins over legend Jim miller and the young Marcin held and the learning lesson at 200 in 2016 still a very solid accomplished year in the octagon doing what I love! dispite the haters that like to say I'm done and should retire. I'm competing at the highest level as a professional fighter making a honest living providing for my family, painting my picture as a never say die, never quit mentally fighter! that's what Rocky Balboa was in the iconic movie that inspired the world, well that's what I like to think I'm doing in a real life movie the Diego NIGHTMARE Sanchez story and it is not over and I will continue to fight on! last nights victory marks getting back up when life knocks you down hard like in July at 200! my testimony is one that glorifies Jesus Christ as my strength not my self. I have always loved Mexico but now I have a new appreciation for its people and the hard working lives they live especially hear in the heart 12 million strong in Mexico City they embraced me out here for my heart and it really felt good! the chants of Diego Diego Diego reminded me of Houston when I fought Gilbert Melendez I know with out a doubt I'll be back and 2017 will be a big year I'm looking up not down staying positive and keeping my dreams and goals alive through hard work and good peer groups. To all the ones that support me and my journey thank you.

With the lightweight division being one of the most stacked in the UFC, and two pivotal lightweight matchups taking place this weekend at UFC 205 in the form of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson, and Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez, where do you think Sanchez will fall among the UFC’s top ranked lightweights following the win?
