VIDEO | Dominick Cruz Gives Floyd Mayweather a Hint for MMA, Says He Would Beat Him With One Arm
“Well let’s put it this way… We saw Conor McGregor cross over to boxing within six to eight months and face what has said to be the best boxer on Earth, yes or no? Yes. I would say that if Floyd Mayweather needs six to eight months to prepare for his first MMA fight and he wants to fight one of the best in the world, I could make that with one arm and fight him. And that’s just the way it is.
Because he’s only got two tools. He doesn’t have the other eight, he doesn’t have grappling, he doesn’t have kicks, he doesn’t have knees, he doesn’t have elbows. And if he’s lucky he can learn to defend a takedown in eight months and that’s just real.
I’ll give him a hint… Focus on your takedown defense no matter who you’re fighting, don’t worry about nothin’ else, Floyd Mayweather. Just takedown defense.
If Floyd Mayweather can stop everyone in the UFC from taking him down, he has a chance of winning. Six to eight months, you’re gonna need more and that’s me trying to be kind here.”
When it comes to the best minds in mixed martial arts, you don’t get much better than the former longtime king of bantamweight, Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz. Cruz is known for many things in and out of the cage, one of those being his incredible wisdom and ability to analyze the sport. Thus making him an interesting person to listen to about the possible crossover from boxing to MMA that Floyd Mayweather continues to tease.
At this point though, it might be just getting more real whether we would like to admit it or not. Mayweather recently stated that he will be applying for his MMA license but has yet to. This would obviously be a huge indicator as to how serious all of this talk about him doing MMA is, but he has to actually go through with it now otherwise we’ll see that it was all just a big publicity stunt.
As for the former UFC champion, Cruz. He hasn’t fought since December 31st of 2016 when he lost his title to Cody Garbrandt. He was supposed to fight Jimmie Rivera at UFC 219 this past December but was forced out of the bout with a broken arm. He is now getting closer and closer to 100% and hopes to get a high profile fight in his return.
What do you think of Cruz’ comments? Would you bet on him to beat Mayweather in an MMA fight with just one arm?
