Earlier this year, it was revealed that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon to fight UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in a highly anticipated showdown for Bisping’s middleweight title.

While the fight was never actually formalized, Bisping and St-Pierre both appeared on stage at a press conference in Las Vegas where they talked nothing but trash for the duration of the event.

Now, with Bisping set to fight the winner of this summer’s interim middleweight title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker, UFC President Dana White wants to set the record straight regarding St-Pierre’s return, and the fact that the UFC isn’t putting their plans on hold for the former champ:

He spoke on UFC Unfiltered:

“It’s not happening,” White said about Bisping vs. St-Pierre on “UFC Unfiltered” this week. “Bisping’s a little banged up right now. These two [Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker] are going to fight for the interim championship and then Bisping will fight the winner.”

“Georges St-Pierre will come back who knows when, November, December or next year, and he’ll fight whoever the champion is at 170 [pounds],” White said.

“I’m not very confident in when GSP will return. So we’ll see.”

“I don’t wait for anybody,” White said about St-Pierre. “The world moves on and we keep on rolling and when he comes back, he’ll come back and he’ll fight whoever the champion is at 170 [pounds].”

At the present time of course, Tyron Woodley reigns as the UFC welterweight champion, with Demian Maia and his 7-fight win streak currently the welterweight #1 contender.

One thing is for sure, when St-Pierre finally returns to the UFC’s welterweight division, he will be returning to a division that looks far different from the one he left in 2013.

Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
