Justin Golightly - September 13, 2017
Just a couple of hours ago, it was announced that Thiago Alves wasn’t going to make it to UFC Pittsburgh to fight Mike Perry due to undisclosed reasons. Along with the recent Jon Jones and Jesse Taylor news today, a co-main event falling through was just icing on the bad day cake. Thiago Alves Is Out of The Fight With Mike Perry at UFC Pittsburgh
Justin Golightly - September 13, 2017
This weekend, UFC Pittburgh goes down with a collection of some scrappy fights headlined by Luke Rockhold and David Branch. Unfortunately, there will be one less fight we can look forward to. Thiago Alves had to pull out of his fight with Mike Perry according to MMA Fighting. Right now the reasons are undisclosed, however Alves does live in Florida and he and his family could have been affected by the storm. This was something Perry was worried about, so he left a week earlier as a resident of Florida himself. A recent update from Ariel Helwani seems to confirm it was storm related complications. For those wondering about Thiago Alves, I’m told he was stranded due to Irma. Decided against leaving early to stay with his wife and child.
Welterweight contenders Colby Covington and Mike Perry swap heat on Twitter
Tom Taylor - September 13, 2017
Colby Covington and Mike Perry, two of the UFC’s most promising welterweight contenders, have been exchanging a bit of trash talk on Twitter. Given that Alves is one of Covington’s teammates at American Top Team, his answer wasn’t particularly surprising.
Mike Perry on Thiago Alves: "I hope he does miss weight!"
Tom Taylor - August 3, 2017
On September 16, when the UFC touches down in Pittsburgh, PA, ever entertaining welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry will step onto the canvas with former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves. Alves, of course, has long stood out as one of the welterweight division’s most exciting – and dangerous – fighters. The one knock against the Brazilian star, however, is that he’s had some real difficulty making weight in the past. To recount, Alves has missed weight for welterweight fights with Matt Hughes and Jon Fitch, and for his lone attempt at making lightweight, when he tipped the scales at 162 pounds rather than the mandated 155. And while he seemed to have his weight under control for his last fight – an exciting decision defeat of Patrick Cote – there seems to be an ever-present possibility that he misses again.
Mike Perry shares crazy story about accidentally swallowing a piece of metal, "cutting his insides up"
Tom Taylor - August 3, 2017
On September 16, all-action welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry will step into the Octagon with former title challenger Thiago Alves. While Perry has endured pretty difficult weight cuts in the past, he expects his cut for this battle with Alves to be quite easy. This is in part due to intense training and clean eating, but also due to a wild accident wherein Perry swallowed a piece of metal and got violently ill. The fan favorite welterweight shared this story on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio:
Mike Perry wants to be the first fighter to really "run through" Thiago Alves
Tom Taylor - August 3, 2017

Perry discussed the matchup on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio, telling host Kinch that he grew up watching Alves, but has no problem beating him up. In fact, he believes nobody has ever decisively defeated Alves, and hopes to be the first man to do so.

Mike Perry Details heated run in with Jeremy Stephens at athlete retreat
Tom Taylor - May 23, 2017
Over the weekend, the UFC flew more than 400 of its fighters out to Las Vegas for a special, athletes retreat. This retreat has generated quite a few headlines over the last few days – and very few of them have been positive. Mike Perry, however, had an amazing time participating. While Perry’s review of the retreat is overwhelming positive, however, he did have one slightly negative experience when he ran into UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens. Apparently, things got tense enough that Perry pushed Stephens onto the ground. Perry recounted the run-in in an interview with BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor.

The dispute was so heated that Iaquinta even went as far as to retire from MMA, and pursue a real estate career full-time. Iaquinta and the UFC were ultimately able to reach an agreement, and ‘Raging Al’ returned to the Octagon nearly two years later at ‘UFC Fight Night: Nashville’ this past weekend. Much to his frustration, the UFC didn’t award him with a post-fight bonus despite his spectacular first round KO. This led to Iaquinta putting his bosses on blast in interviews, and on social media.
