Report: "Platinum" Mike Perry Returns to the Octagon at 'UFC Nashville'

“Platinum” Mike Perry is poised for a return to the Octagon. The fan favorite welterweight will be taking on Jake Ellenberger at ‘UFC Fight Night: Nashville’, which goes down on April 22nd on Fox Sports 1 at the Bridgestone Arena according to the Los Angeles Daily News. This bout will be Perry’s fourth in the UFC’s Octagon. In his first Octagon appearance, which occurred in August of 2016, he scored a thudding, first-round TKO over dangerous South Korean talent Hyun Gyu Lim. In his second UFC bout, which occurred in October, he put Danny Roberts down in the third round of a thrilling, back-and-fourth scrap, sealing the deal with a knee and several followup punches. In his most recent bout, finally, Perry experienced his first pro loss, giving up a decision to the more experienced Alan Jouban on the main card of December’s UFC on Fox 22. With this loss, his overall record moved to 9-1.

UFC welterweight fighter Mike Perry suffered the first loss of his professional career at last month’s UFC on FOX event in Sacramento dropping a decision against surging division contender Alan Jouban. Prior to the setback, “Platinum” had put together a very impressive win streak which included six first-round finishes.

Unfortunately for fans of “Platinum”, the 170-pound slugger suffered his first career setback at December’s UFC on FOX event in Sacramento, dropping a decision loss to surging welterweight contender Alan Jouban on the evenings main card.

UFC welterweight Mike Perry made quite the impact on the UFC’s welterweight division in 2016. Entering into the promotion a perfect 7-0 in his professional career, with all of his wins being KO/TKO wins. When Perry stepped into the Octagon against Hyun Gyu Lim at UFC 202 in August, it took him just over three minutes to pick up a TKO win over the UFC vet, and secure himself his first UFC win. Perry continued to make waves in the division through the media through training camp leading up to his next fight, a UFC 204 scrap with Danny Roberts. Perry won that fight too, picking up a late third round KO win over Roberts, and advancing to 2-0 in the UFC.

One of the most anticipated features of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 22 lineup was a welterweight showdown between scrappy fan favorites Mike Perry and Alan Jouban. Given the pair’s proven propensity for violence, the possibility of a knockout in this fight seemed high. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a knockout. In fact, we didn’t even get an especially competitive fight. Instead, Jouban soundly out-struck Perry for three rounds, battering him with a diversified Muay Thai attack and staying out of the way of his crippling power punches. The end result, then, was a clear-cut decision win for Jouban.

The Flint, Michigan native has not only won all of his UFC fights, but all of his professional fights, by way of KO/TKO. In his UFC debut earlier this year, Perry picked up an impressive first round TKO win over Hyun Gyu Lim, drawing the attention of fight fans. Earlier this month, on the Fight Pass Prelims of UFC 204, “Platinum” Mike Perry improved to 2-0 as a UFC welterweight with a thunderous, third-round knockout of Danny Roberts. Now, it looks as though the undefeated prospect will be rewarded for this big win with a fight against long-time contender Matt Brown at UFC 207 this December Perry’s being given this opportunity can probably be attributed to his willingness to call fighters out after his wins. After winning his UFC debut against Hyun Gyu Lim, for example, he called out two former champions in Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks – both of whom were ranked miles above him at the time.

The UFC has released a statement on Alex Nicholson’s racist remarks while cornering Mike Perry in his octagon debut against Hyun Gyu Lim at UFC 202. Nicholson, a UFC middleweight and Perry’s teammate, was overheard saying “he can’t even open his (expletive) eyes” over the UFC cornerman microphones just moments before the fight began.

Many fans were furious after they found out about the racist insults that were made towards Hyun Gyu Lim from Mike Perry’s corner. On Tuesday, fellow UFC fighter Alex Nicholson came out with a short statement on twitter and said, “I respect every man who steps in the cage and my comments were insensitive towards lim I was hype for my brother but It’s all love no hate.”

Undefeated welterweight prospect Mike Perry (8-0 MMA) made quite the statement in his octagon debut last night at UFC 202, this by scoring a brutal first-round knockout victory over Hyun Gyu Lim. Perry was able to drop the Korean fighter on multiple occasions before the referee had finally seen enough and called a stop to the contest.
