UFC 212 Results: Marlon Moraes vs. Raphael Assuncao

A key bantamweight scrap between Marlon Moraes and Raphael Assuncao served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC 212 prelims in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Round one begins and Moraes lands a leg kick to get things started. Raphael responds with one of his own. Marlon comes in with a flurry but Assuncao avoids the attempted strikes. Moraes loads up with a right hand that finds a home. He just misses with a head kick and then Assuncao counters with a right hand over the top. Raphael comes forward but eats a big right hand from Marlon. Assuncao leaps in with a right hand of his own but it misses the mark. Assuncao accidently connects with a kick low but Marlon says he is fine and they fight on. Moraes is utilizing a lot of movement here. He connects with a hard body kick. Moraes connects with a leaping left hook. Assuncao circles out and then shoots in for a takedown but Marlon is able to defend. Assuncao connects with a right hook and then another. He goes low with a leg kick. Moraes fires off a right hand to the body of Raphael. He misses with a spinning kick and Assuncao catches him with a big right hand. Another right appears to stun Marlon but the horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and Assuncao lands a stiff left jab to start. Moraes presses forward and lands a nice low kick. Raphael returns fire with one of his own. He follows that up with a right hook. Moraes misses with a left hand and then a head kick. Both men score with left hands. Assuncao is pressing the action now. He misses with a head kick. Moraes circles out and then comes forward with a nice shot to the body of Raphael. Assuncao replies with a front kick to the thigh. Moraes immediately fires back with a left hand and then a kick to the body. Both fighters are moving well here. Assuncao with a front kick which is blocked. Marlon circles out. He leaps in with an attempted body shot that falls short. Assuncao connects with a left and then just narrowly avoids getting struck with a wheel kick. Moraes circles and then scores with a nice left hook. Marlon is bleeding from his nose but still fires off a nice combination. Assuncao finishes the round off with a kick to the body.

Round three begins and Moraes quickly fires off a right jab. Assuncao circles out and the comes forward and lands a big left hook that stuns Marlon. Moraes retreats but then bites down on his mouthpiece and presses forward. A good low kick from Raphael. Marlon responds with a left hand and then a low kick. Assuncao replies with a low kick of his own. Both fighters are utilizing a lot of movement and faints now. Marlon misses with a head kick attempt. Raphael kicks low but it hits the groin area of Marlon. Moraes appears to be ok and so we continue. Marlon lands a push kick. He follows that up with a stiff left jab. Assuncao fires off a leg kick. Moraes comes back with a right hand. Assuncao fires off a leg kick but Marlon catches it and attempts a takedown. Assuncao is able to scramble free and stay up on his feet. Moraes with a hard spinning kick that partially lands. He follows that up with a left high kick and then a right hand. Round three comes to an end.
