Colby Covington made a bold statement claiming that UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesayna doesn’t stand a chance with him inside the Octagon and is willing to back it up. Covington is currently ranked No.2 in the welterweight division and is on the hunt for a third championship fight later in the year. During his time under the UFC banner, Covington has attained the interim welterweight gold strap and fell short on two occasions to claim the undisputed championship against Kamaru Usman.

Last weekend, Aljamain Sterling defeated Henry Cejudo to retain the UFC bantamweight championship. In doing so, he set himself up for what should be a blockbuster showdown with Sean O’Malley.

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler got physical during a faceoff at the TUF 31 filming. McGregor and Chandler are coaches for the upcoming season – which will air later this month – and the trailer for the season just got dropped. In the first trailer, you can see McGregor train and coach some of his fighters, while also seeing sneak peaks of the actual fights. But the biggest moment was right at the end when McGregor shoved Chandler and sent him back.

Last Saturday, May 6th, saw Henry Cejudo (16-3 MMA) return to the Octagon after a 3 year hiatus to enter into a title fight with Aljamain Sterling (23-3 MMA). The bantamweight main event at UFC 288 did not end in favor of ‘Triple C’, for it was Sterling who was the victor via way of split-decision.

Matt Brown will finally be back in action this weekend. Brown last fought at UFC Columbus in March of last year where he dropped a split decision to Bryan Barberena. It was a fight he thought he won, and since then injuries have kept him out of the Octagon. However, he is now back to full health and will fight at UFC Charlotte against Court McGee, which he is excited for.

Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion and is expected to face the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush in October. After that, it’s uncertain who would be next and although there has been talk of Islam fighting at 170 before, Covington doubts that will happen.

Scotland’s Paul Craig has expressed an interest in fighting former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira. The 35-year-old believes it’s a favourable matchup for him given Pereira’s underdeveloped ground game. Despite the offer from Craig, it’s unclear what division the fight would take place in, with the Airdrie native announcing he would attempt to make middleweight for his next bout following a successful test-cut earlier this month.
