Dana White and the UFC block Georges St-Pierre from boxing Oscar De La Hoya

Dana White and the UFC prevented a boxing match between Georges St-Pierre and Oscar De La Hoya from coming to fruition according to Triller boss Ryan Kavanaugh. St-Pierre (26-2 MMA) had retired from mixed martial arts shortly after dethroning Michael Bisping for the promotions middleweight title in November of 2017. Despite having not competed in over three and half years, ‘GSP’ still needs permission from the UFC to fight with other promotions.

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has apologized after his commentary during last Saturday’s Triller: Askren vs. Paul event in Atlanta. De La Hoya joined the Triller commentary booth during Saturday’s pay-per-view and appeared to be under the influence. Oscar’s commentary was actually so outlandish that it began to overshadow the actually boxing matches.

Oscar De La Hoya has released a video of him training ahead of his potential return. De La Hoya has teased a return for quite some time, but recently, he announced he would be back on July 3. The plan for the former boxing world champion was to face an MMA fighter and the likes of Anthony Pettis, and Eddie Alvarez showed interest in the fight.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong revealed that Eddie Alvarez vs. Oscar de la Hoya in a boxing match is “a real possibility.” Alvarez recently admitted that he was in “serious talks” to fight de la Hoya, the boxing legend who is also part of the commentary team the Triller Fight Club.

Oscar De La Hoya is making his comeback and he wants a notable UFC name to square off with. Anthony Pettis wasn’t good enough, according to his manager. Prior to Friday’s Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren pre-fight press conference, De La Hoya told Snoop Dogg that he’s getting back in the ring in July. To follow things up, ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported that De La Hoya’s return bout on July 3 will likely happen in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium where he wants “a big UFC name.” Thus prompting a response from the manager of Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, Malki Kawa.

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya announced that he is coming out of retirement and stepping back into the boxing ring on July 3. De La Hoya has not fought since December 2008 when he lost to Manny Pacquiao. Now 48 years old, the Golden Boy executive is making his comeback to the boxing ring this summer. The legend announced his return to the sport during the Triller press conference on Friday night. The opponent was not named but we will likely find who it will be soon. Given the way the matchmaking works in Triller, it seems likely that he will end up fighting another aged veteran. Either way, De La Hoya is going to fight once again.

Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez filed a lawsuit against streaming service DAZN, and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The lawsuit, launched in a Los Angeles Federal Court, alleges Canelo’s multi-fight deal with DAZN was breached to the tune of $280 million in damages, according to court docs obtained by Mike Coppinger of The Athletic.

TMZ Sports is reporting that a woman is filing the lawsuit under the alias of “Jane Doe” in order to protect her identity, with the timeline dating back to 2016 when she first met the former boxing champion. The incident in question, however, occurred in November 2017 when she was invited to De La Hoya’s then-new home in Pasadena, California.

On November 2, the UFC will go head-to-head with a massive boxing match, and UFC President Dana White is expecting to come out on top. Over on the East Coast, White and the UFC will promote UFC 244, a huge pay-per-view card topped by a dynamite welterweight showdown between fan favorite welterweight contenders Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. Over on the West Coast, and potentially overlapping with UFC 244, Golden Boy Promotions will promote a similarly huge card, as pound-for-pound stalwart Canelo Alvarez climbs up in weight to battle the much larger Sergey Kovalev.
