USADA gives update on Brock Lesnar, eligible to return in January
This past Saturday, current WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar stepped foot inside of an MMA cage for the first time since UFC 200 in July 2016.
That last time being when he would defeat Mark Hunt via unanimous decision only to test positive for banned substances shortly after.
This resulted in Lesnar receiving a one-year suspension and him announcing his second retirement from MMA. He would go back to the WWE which is where he was prior to this first return.
Due to Lesnar’s retirement, it froze his suspension, therefore, meaning it would reactivate upon any situation where he would return to action. That time has now arrived.
After UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s historic heavyweight championship win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, Lesnar stormed the cage to confront Cormier which would set up a future bout between the two as has been confirmed by UFC President Dana White.
Today USADA gave us an update on how much time Lesnar has left before he can fight again as reports MMAFighting.
“After receiving notice of his intent to compete in the UFC, USADA re-entered Brock Lesnar to the testing pool on July 3. With six months and four days remaining on his period of ineligibility, Lesnar will be able to compete on or after January 8, 2019, should he remain in compliance with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.”
With so much time between now and then, this gives Cormier a chance for a fight in between which he has already stated that he has interest in that being against another fellow former UFC champion in Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
Of course, that fight would be a light heavyweight title defense for Cormier as he is still the champion at 205 pounds as well as now being the heavyweight champ.
