UFC 239 | Mike Winkeljohn: Holly Holm can 'shock the world again' by beating Nunes

Cole Shelton - July 2, 2019

Holly Holm is no stranger to shocking the world. Back in 2015 at UFC 193, Holm was taking on bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who was considered unbeatable. But, “The Preacher’s Daughter” did what no one expected her to do as she knocked out “Rowdy” to win the title. Holm was a +825 underdog, and at UFC 239 the similarities are hard to ignore.

Cole Shelton - February 11, 2019

At UFC 235, Holly Holm was expected to return to the bantamweight division to take on a rising undefeated prospect in Aspen Ladd. However, at the UFC 235 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White announced that the fight was off. That left many wondering if one of the fighters was hurt or if Holm was perhaps getting a title shot against Amanda Nunes. Ladd’s team didn’t know anything about it as they told BJPenn.com’s Cole Shelton the change was news to them, and they are “still figuring stuff out.”

Report | Holly Holm could get next crack at Amanda Nunes

Tom Taylor - February 1, 2019

Until very recently, former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm was expected to fight Aspen Ladd at UFC 235 on March 2. Then, at last night’s UFC 235 press conference, UFC President Dana White casually dropped the news that Holm would not be competing on the card after all. In the wake of this news, many members of the MMA community guessed that Holly Holm could be reallocated to a title fight with Amanda Nunes, who currently owns the UFC bantamweight and featherweight belts. Brazilian publication Combate is reporting that this is indeed the case.

Holly Holm undergoing knee surgery, hopes for fight with Amanda Nunes in 2019

Drake Riggs - September 7, 2018

When it comes to big-name MMA stars amongst the female fighters, few are as big as the former bantamweight queen Holly Holm. Of course, outside of her legendary status as a professional boxer, Holm was the very first woman to ever defeat Ronda Rousey in MMA. And she did so in incredibly one-sided fashion for a stunning upset.

Amanda Nunes nunes calls for fight with Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg joins conversation

Tom Taylor - June 10, 2018

Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm was the picture of dominance in her UFC 225 main card featherweight battle with Megan Anderson, showing off a rarely seen but extremely impressive ground game en route to a lopsided unanimous decision win. With this victory, Holm effectively established herself as the number-one contender at both featherweight and bantamweight. She’s one of the only options available for featherweight champ Cris Cyborg, and one of the few top bantamweights left that bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes has not yet fought. It really seems to come down to which division she’d prefer to fight for the title in first.

Holly Holm still feels like bantamweight is "home" as UFC 225 featherweight contender fight approaches

Tom Taylor - June 4, 2018

This Saturday night, on the main card of UFC 225, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will battle Megan Anderson in a fight that is likely to produce the next challenger for featherweight champ Cris Cyborg. While a win at UFC 225 could easily earn Holm another crack at Cyborg, who she lost a decision to in December, she still feels like the bantamweight division is her true home. “I definitely feel like 135 is a little more my home,” Holm said Friday at a UFC 225 media lunch (via MMAFighting).

Everyone has their eyes on a big super fight these days it seems. And UFC women’s featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg is no different. Cris Cyborg gives her take on upcoming Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson showdown

Tom Taylor - April 13, 2018

UFC 225, which goes down on June 9 in beautiful Chicago, Illinois, looks like an early frontrunner for 2018’s Card of the Year. One of the latest additions to this absolutely stacked card is a women’s featherweight showdown between former Invicta featherweight champ Megan Anderson, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Given that there is only a handful of fighters in the UFC women’s featherweight division, it should come as no surprise that this newly announced matchup is of particular interest to divisional champ Cris Cyborg. Speaking to Amy Kaplan of Fansided, Cyborg gave her take on this matchup. While she isn’t surprised that the UFC put the fight together, she also doesn’t seem sure it was the right fight to make.

Former Invicta champ Megan Anderson to make UFC debut against Holly Holm

Tom Taylor - April 12, 2018

Former Invicta featherweight champion Megan Anderson will finally make her UFC debut at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago. While debuting fighters are often given soft welcomes to the UFC, Anderson will receive no such luxury. Instead, the Australian will battle former UFC women’s bantamweight champion and two-time featherweight title challenger Holly Holm. This awesome booking was first reported by the Chicago Tribune.
