Unfortunate news came out this morning that TJ Dillashaw would be relinquishing his bantamweight title due to ‘adverse’ findings in a USADA drug sample. In addition, it was announced that TJ Dillashaw will be suspended for a year, retroactive to January 19.

Earlier this month, TJ Dillashaw defended the UFC bantamweight title with a first-round knockout his rival Cody Garbrandt. On the same night, Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo did the unthinkable, capturing the UFC flyweight title from seemingly unstoppable flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson. Since then, Dillashaw and Cejudo have flirted with the notion of fighting each other. At first, the idea was that Cejudo would move up to bantamweight to challenge Dillashaw. More recently, however, Dillashaw and his coach Duane Ludwig have implied interest in dropping to flyweight to fight Cejudo.

Specifically, Moraes is hoping to fight Dillashaw at UFC 229 on October 6, which will, of course, be headline by a lightweight title mega fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Speaking on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Moraes gave his side of the story on this back-stage skirmish, and explained that his manager Ali Abdelaziz nearly came to blows with Rivera’s coach Tiger Schulman. In his eyes, this was the fault of some misplaced aggression from Schulman.

Not only does he get another shot, but just a day after his fight with Holloway is re-booked for UFC 222, he got bumped up to first degree black belt. He wasn’t the only fighter getting the honors from Ricardo Almeida, his teammate Marlon Moraes got promoted from brown belt to black belt. “Such an honor to have these guys on our mats day in and day out. Congratulations gentleman. Marlon Moraes: Congratulations on your black belt, six years as a brown belt and I tried to promote him last year but he wouldn’t accept it.
